Bandite di Scarlino Nature Reserve
Nature reserves
The Poggio Tre Cancelli Nature Reserve is located in Follonica inside the Montioni Park and was created in 1971 with the aim of studying the vegetation in the forest.
For this reason, there is no access to the Reserve and the only way to observe it is to walk along a path around its boundaries.
The forest is characterized by huge holm oak, turkey oak and cork oak trees, while, as far as wildlife is concerned, the most important presence is that of wolves and wild boar.
There is an abundance of birds in the Reserve, including birds of prey - tawny owls, little owls, scops owls, buzzards and kestrels - as well as woodpeckers, turtle doves, cuckoos, great tits and nightingales.
The Reserve is also frequented by reptiles.
Poggio Tre Cancelli cannot be reached by car; you can get there on foot or by mountain bike along the countless trails in Montioni Park.
